Siren is an appellation normally applied to a mythological female who lured sailors to their death. Ancient seaman thought the manatee may have been one.
This lowly plant, Pitcher Plant, also attracts victims but they are insects which this plant "eats". Insects are attracted to a delicious ambrosia the pitcher plant concocts that is at the bottom of its pitcher. The victims enter the pitcher, gets to the bottom but are caught by the sticky walls of the vessel and eventually die. The plant attacks the dead body with enzymes reducing the innards to liquid that the plant uses for nourishment. This plant would be a great lead in Broadway's musical, "The Little Shop of Horrors".
