The usual bucolic visions of the Holstein breed of bovine do not depict all aspects of the life of this animal. These animals are usually left out most of the cold months that are relatively snowstorm free. The coat gets thick during this time, too. They also get dirty laying on the barn floor.
The area I live in still has active milk farms despite its closeness to one of the world's most dynamic cities. The local government is hoping to have these farms put in a pool of designated acreage to be kept open forever. This will help save the rural atmosphere of this region.
