The wolf (Canis lupus) inhabits the Northern American and northern regions of Europe and Asia never venturing into the hot southern regions. In both European and American folklore it gained a bad reputation because of it's nocturnal habits and aerie chorus of complex vocal songs.
It was also revered by the North American Indians and became an integral part of their oral history. I believe in some of the tribes it was given the acolade—ghost.
